At the end of 2020, the video game industry made headlines because of its revenue for the year. It was reported that the industry made almost $180 billion in just one year. Thus, it surpassed the earnings of both the movies and sports industries combined. What caused this dramatic spike in video game sales is, unsurprisingly, the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the stay-at-home orders enforced by the governments, people were forced to entertain themselves at home. Thus, they turned to video games.

What’s great is that we’re expecting more exciting games this 2021 and beyond. So start saving up for a Playstation 5 (PS5) or an Xbox Series X. If not that, then prepare to build your own gaming computer. It’s going to be a good year with these games.

Hogwarts Legacy

Ever since the Harry Potter book series captured the world’s attention, it has turned into so much more than a book set. It has become a mega-franchise that released blockbusters, opened amusement parks, and created video games. We’re used to joining Harry and his gang on their crazy adventures around the castle and other locations in the wizarding community. But our gaming experience, so far, is nothing compared to what we might experience with Hogwarts Legacy.

This video game is described as an “immersive, open-world action RPG.” We’ll get to play as one of the students and go through the same adventures that Hogwarts students go through. The sorting hat ceremony, potion-brewing, and dueling–it has it all. But what’s really interesting about this is that it’s set in the 1800s. So it’s way before Harry’s time in the wizarding world.

Gotham Knights

If we’re not going to immerse ourselves in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, then we deserve to enter the world of superheroes and vigilantes. And that’s what we’ll get to do with Gotham Knights. It’s no secret the comic book industry is one of the biggest industries right now, especially with the Marvel Cinematic Universe breaking world records in film. So it’s not surprising that people are also very excited about a game set in the world of one of the most beloved DC superheroes: Batman.

But what captures people’s attention to Gotham Knights is that the premise says that Batman is dead. So it’s up to the members of the Batman family to make sure that the streets of Gotham remain safe. In this open-world game, we’ll get to play as Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, or, of course, Robin.

Horizon Forbidden West

Because of our love for a wizarding world and a city protected by superheroes, we’re also excited for a futuristic and post-apocalyptic world. We love such worlds because it gives a glimpse of what the world might become in the future. With Horizons Forbidden Forest, we’ll get to follow Aloy, a young female huntress well respected among her people, the Nora tribe.

Aloy’s world is full of forests, sunken cities of the past, and massive machines that humans control. As the players, we’re free to explore this strange world on our own. But what makes this game interesting is the fact that it’s dying. Humanity and the environment are, yet, again, verging on extinction. Aloy takes it upon herself to discover what’s causing this harm on life on earth and to stop the threats. And we get to go with her on this grand adventure.

Hitman 3

Some of us prefer to play games that are in a real-world setting. Sure, we like magic, giant machines, and superhero powers. But we can’t help it if we’re more excited about a game that can very well happen in real life. And that’s what the Hitman series brought us. Ever since the launch of the first installment of the World of Assassination in 2016, video game enthusiasts worldwide have been invested in Agent 47. They love his antihero identity as he carries out his missions of assassination.

So, naturally, people can’t wait to find out what happens next to his story in the World of Assassination trilogy will conclude with Hitman 3. With this game, we’ll continue to follow Agent 47 as he traveled worldwide for his missions. This third installment promises more adventures with high stakes.

The gaming industry is expected to continue growing. Experts believe that it will surpass the $180 billion mark achieved in 2021. This is because of the highly anticipated release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Video game enthusiasts are also on the edge of their seats for countless video games in the pipeline. For now, all we can do is wait and hype ourselves up.
